11.30am tomorrow I will speak with the company that showed interest on linkedin, this person calls themselves a "talent-engineer", so I imagine she is working on behalf of a third party... Is this common?
Either way, I'll hear more about what a business analyst is, sounds low on the totem pole though, haha. Where currently I report directly to the GM, but that's in a smaller company, so the way to the top is less blurry than the 60+ stories at the Rencen.

The modern job hunt experience feels like trying to sell an iPhone on craigslist these days.

Sounds like it's through a contract house. Not ideal, but very common in the auto industry these days.

Sounds like a head hunter, they add engineer if the job seems in anyway technical or scientific.

hahaha, well... My screen isn't cracked and my battery doesn't need replacing. So that should put me in an awesome spot in the market :P

Strange thing is, they added it to THEIR title, not to the one I'd potentially have. Talent Engineer sounds like a job title that needs to DIE yesterday. There's nothing engineering about head hunting.

Generally doesn't mean anything, those are the types that e-mail me every week for six figure jobs I don't qualify for. Interest is good, though.

if your position is what would be executuve level then yes - the company retains a head hunting firm to find them talent. the firm checks you out first then passes on their findings to the company/client. If they like you then they will either take you on or interview you themselves if their is a reason too. Either way a middle man in a hiring process is very normal.

Yeah I get the impression it's an mfg/auto related job.

Lol, they didn't taunt me with six figures, I hope they do though (in a non-sketchy manner), it'll have me leaving my current job in a hurry.

I imagine you are referring to the prospective position when it comes to executive level?
I don't get the impression it is, but maybe, I guess it depends. I'd expect the words senior or manager in the job title if it were.

They engineer your skills and resume into something that would look good to their client, thus putting cash in their pocket

My biggest pet pev. If you don't have a degree in engineering, you're not a fucking engineer.

Ugh... Another non-value added way to make a living, haha. But perhaps it's a good thing. It seems the market can support this job.

I've had these people contact me several times over the years. I'm happy with my current job but they still call from time to time seemingly just to waste my time.

I've honestly thought about getting into the headhunting game. I've spent enough years in my industry interviewing, being interviewed, working and training to know pretty well what kind of IT guy fits what kind of requisition
I'm not a salesperson though

Fully agree, unless you drive a train.

I'll be happy where I am at until the day I get an offer that's 20%+ higher than what I am making now.
![]() 06/26/2014 at 16:22 |
|
Yeah I usually just lie to them about what I make and they don't call back for another year or so.

It seems like a fun job, as long as you are doing it for a respectable firm. There seem to be quite a few of those dime-a-dozen talent-agencies out there that anyone I know that didn't give a hoot in college seems to be working for now.
![]() 06/26/2014 at 16:24 |
|
Yeah, I am completely prepared to lie +10%. :P
![]() 06/26/2014 at 16:35 |

Yup, tons of those popping up these days - I'm employed by one lol
![]() 06/26/2014 at 16:37 |

lol, I hope I didn't come across as insulting.
![]() 06/26/2014 at 16:44 |

Oh not at all. They're just middlemen for my paycheck, that's all. There's no stipulation that I have to ride the contract through; I'm hoping to get bought out of it soon enough
I don't get PTO, vacation or sick days. No health coverage either.

well said

definitely a hiring agency. Be warned in advance a lot of times they won't tell you who the company is until you've gone through the first round of interview with the agency. It's pretty normal (and I still don't know why they do it.
Good luck, looks like it might bring you over to my side of the state!

No health is particularly shitty. And if you take a day off it's pretty much a day of no pay?
![]() 06/26/2014 at 17:14 |

Nope, they said it's here in Grand Rapids, not opposed to going to "the other side" though :p.

Yup. Best job I've had in ages, but through the worst agency. Cannot wait until they buy me out of this contract
